What caused the arc in the photo? It can't be a photoshoped rainbow because it is on the same side as the sun.

It is not a photoshopped rainbow though it's kind of look like one. It is a "halo ring" or "corona" around the sun caused by particles in the upper atmosphere. Scientifically, it's caused by atmospheric conditions.
